Residential Vacation Home

For this residential project, Delta AV needed to incorporate a high-end audio and visual system seamlessly into the architectural design of a mostly glass structure. The system had to blend into the background, so as to not interrupt the breathtaking scenery of the Columbia River Gorge.

The Challenge

The system needed to accommodate three separate buildings totaling 3,100 square feet. In addition, the client wanted the home’s residents and their guests to be able to listen to music while enjoying world class windsurfing on the Columbia River. Because of this, the audio had to extend 100 yards from the shore and be weather-proof.

The Approach

We started with the customer's wish list and made recommendations on how to achieve the desired experience. We then applied the team's creativity to make further suggestions about maintaining the aesthetics while incorporating streamline touch panels and cohesive technology. The Delta AV design engineer and project manager collaborated with the consultant and architectural firm GC and ED, to ensure all infrastructures met specifications as well as conducting verifications and testing for all processes.

The Solution

A system was developed for a multi-zone, multi-source audio system with playback of audio sources to each of the zones listed below. A Crestron touchpanel control system was installed providing a selection and control of sources, like volume, muting, and display of meta-data. Additionally, the system-wide "party mode" functionality was implemented to take control of the entire system locally. All sources were made available to all zones, individually and in concert. The owner furnished an iPhone and iPad to control the equipment. These mobile devices could be housed in the main equipment rack, as well as in other specified locations.

The Result

Our client can now enjoy his advanced audio system while windsurfing out in the Columbia River Gorge or relaxing in his home. Our user interface programmers developed an intuitive control system that the client felt he already knew how to use. The user-friendly touch panels allowed for easy control of the house systems from multiple locations.

The system worked exactly how I imagined it would.
